• At this point, you have to hope Illinois gets North Carolina – it seems like the match-up that would make more sense and have wider appeal. Still, we like Izzo and Roy is so much more bearable without the Ring.
• Roger Powell, Jr.’s follow-up on his missed three was the signature moment of the game and the best example of why Illinois won. He gave God the credit, but I’m guessing the big man is pretty busy preparing the house for JPII and not helping RPII dunk, dribble and dominate.
• Glasses are now chilling for the between-game Long Trail Blackbeary Wheat we’ll be treating our Blogging-self to. It was picked up fresh from the Long Trail brewery this past week and was our favorite in the five flavor sampler we indulged in at the LT pub in Bridgewater Corners.
• It’s just a guess, but we think we spotted Globie, Michael Vega in a yellow sweater vest across from the L’ville bench. If you have to ask how we spotted the always-steady Vega, you haven’t been paying attention.
• The Newton Gathering of Shots Loyalists wants to go off subject and submitted the following question from new convertible owner, Ricky Rochester.

Question: “When do you think the first beach day will be?”

Answer: We’re trying to watch basketball here Double-R, can you please stick to the topic at hand? Beach days come and go – Dee Brown may only have one more college game.

There was also some taunting about Bloggers needing to be wireless, which we assure you, Shots is. We can post from anywhere within Chateau Shots and probably a few outdoor locations as well. So back off, Haters.

• From the department of Worthwhile Questions, comes this one from a friend of the Shots program.

Question: “Why does AmEx go out of their way to keep Jason Williams in the frame at the end of the Coach K spot? It’s obvious he’s a focus and I can’t figure out why him?”

Answer: The whole spot is bizarre and actually had a little bit of story steam during the week as it pertained to Coach K’s perceived “unfair recruiting advantage” gained by being featured in the spot. Most reasonable-thinking people just realized – as Tom Izzo said – it’s the fruits of K’s labors.

But what about the Nike impressions that are also thrust into the commercial? And what was the cut for K’s staff? Probably more than the salaries of many assistants nationwide.

Of course K has the right to do any promotion he and his University deem worthy. But they also need to realize the pettiness that will surely ensue with such deals.
