• In the interest of equal time for those non-college hoops fans (bite your tongue), the NFL Network is currently showing the Rhein Fire and the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe’s opening weekend. It’s on tape delay and we’ll withhold the winner for those who may be watching or TiVoing, but we will let you know (Mike Reiss-style) that Pats receiver Cedric James had a TD catch for the Fire. . . In other NFLE news, the Hamburg Sea Devils lost their league debut to the Cologne Centurions. . .We have just provided more NFLE coverage than any other blog in the nation. You’re quite welcome.
• Our favorite part of the GEICO spot called “Tiny House” is when the husband tries to get a little nookie and the wife just flips out. Happens in big houses too, ya know?
• There’s been an inordinate amount of video glitches from the CBS broadcast, all of which I’m sure Rudy Martzke will ignore entirely on Monday. And he’ll quote Neal Pilson and Kevin O’Malley in some way, shape or form.
• The two things I miss most about not being at this year’s Final Four are, in this order: The Runyon’s Retired Irish Bouncepasser’s Association party on Sunday night (especially with the Sox-Yanks going at it); and the random basketball people I always end up sitting next to in the “second tier” of media seats. For a while, it always seemed to be Bob Valvano, who would never remember us year to year. Then last year we got Steve Lavin and some annoying radio guy who kept eating my popcorn.
• Speaking of random people, where’s Charlie Pierce these days? I recall him wishing to visit a tall relative in the St. Louie area during this site visit, but I wasn’t sure if we’d get another Pierce Globe re-cap of the “event” out of him. Let’s hope we do. No one does it better.
