• Looks like the failure rate on the St. Louis 2005 iron-on patch is better than one in three, as many of the patches were shown flapping in the wind on numerous players’ chests. Maybe Velcro would work better? Or just tattoos on their arms?
• Sean May looks older than Tom Izzo. Much older.
• As for the reader who wondered why we won’t be blogging the women’s Final Four, we reply: It’s probably something Mel Greenberg should do – no need to step on Mel’s toes.
• The introduction of the NCAA’s rotating message board at mid-court also signifies the end of the traditional banner which listed the four remaining teams (as is still customary in the early rounds). That’s a shame. It was a bit of old school within the new school environment of domes and cavernous venues.
Who’s making these decisions? Myles Brand? Or some nameless underling? And why can’t they consult with us?
• Oh, and 65 – 32 – 16 – 8 – 4 does not work as well as 64 – 32 – 16 – 8 – 4. So give it up, okay?
• What network isn’t Teri Hatcher on. And why would I complain about such a thing?
• UNC-Illinois is the match-up CBS wanted and it’s the one viewers should have wanted as well. It’s a very compelling match-up and one that could be the perfect capper to what has been a tremendous month of hoops.
• I tend to think my entire reading public is passed out right about now.
• Nantz raved about St. Louis and lobbied for another Final Four in shorter time than this one took. We’ll solicit opinions from others to help balance the assessment, but the capacity of 47,000 does seem about right to keep the intimacy and still allow for compelling broadcasts. It televises as a smaller dome than some of the others, wouldn’t you say?
• Oh, oh Sethy Pooh might have been right. But Clark should still slug him. And Packer gave him due credit in the waning seconds of Game 2, for his prediction that speed would kill State.
• Credit Nantz for being all over the 10 point UNC lead being the biggest deficit of the tournament for Michigan State.
• The fourth season of “Dinner for Five” has begun on IFC, and it never disappoints. And don’t believe the hatin’ on John Favreau that Boston Sports Guy spits out – Favs knows his stuff and makes good TV. The “Swingers” 20 minute special currently in rotation is also worth the peek.
• It appears Topher Grace is the host for tonight’s Saturday Night Live. Someone wake me when Tina and Amy do the news, okay?
• Love the idea by My Boss Bruce to try out some podcasting. It could wind up being the Thinking Man’s answer to mindless sports talk radio (yeah, you Smerlas and your ilk). If the technology is easy and cheap enough, I could see Shots trying out the format as well.
• Contain your excitement, folks. Multimedia is our middle name.
• Tomorrow night’s Sox Opener Shots’ Blog evlogging will begin right around first pitch and continue through the final out, but not necessarily
“Sports Final.”
