• Damon’s definitely distracted. He swung and missed at the first pitch.
Damn book. Damn divorce. Damn him. Cut the hair, clown.
(Auditioning for ‘EEI tomorrow – how am I doing?)
• NESN had a pre-game Luxury Box camera pan and the order of appearance went Billy Crystal, Large-Mouthed Blonde (next to) Trump, The Factor Man, O’Reilly
and Regis. Where was O’Reilly’s Yaz comments then, eh?
• Nice to see El Gaupo’s old bullpen jacket getting some use on D. Wells – or was that a Red Sox tent he wore in form the ‘pen?
• How disrespectful is it that Fenway didn’t get the Season Opener in the Year of Our Defense? Complete lack of respect and a complete Steinbrenner
arrangement.
• Not for nothing, but it should have been Sean Freaking McDonough doing the intro from the Bronx for UPN38. Sergeant Friday is missed – and you can
bet more than a few people feel that way.
Again – no shot at Don O, per se, but McDonough got shafted and the Sox barely took an ounce of heat for it. I still find that disgraceful.
• The New York Post’s Joel Sherman and Michael Morrissey were the two writers of six who took the Sox to win the AL East in last week’s Post
Baseball 2005 preview. All six had the Sox and Yanks on top and five of the six took the Yanks to win it all (only Sherman took the Twins).
The only reason I point any of this out, is because I happened to save the section all the way from Vermont and I hate wasting the tote all the way down
south here. There were also a couple good Mike Vaccaro pieces, but if you’ve been paying attention, you knew that already. Vacs rarely fails to
deliver.
• My Buddy Paulie Brookline calls up and asks: “So you watching Desperate or the Sox?. . .”
He pauses. “. . . Or the Women’s Final Four.”
Why that guy doesn’t have his own blog is beyond me. He also wasn’t a fan of the Philly Guv’s National Anthem and couldn’t understand why Romney was wearing
No. 24 and Ed Rendell wearing 21 (not for Law and Gay, but the score of the Eagles game, 24-21). Although Law and Gay are certainly two familiar party
platforms.
• “The Story Continues Tonight,” promised the screen shot on UPN38 just before 8 And then they promo’ed “The Greatest Story of Them All” being shown at 6:30
tonight. Not exactly a seamless transition into 2005, but hey, we’re the Champs, right?
• I guess I did miss baseball to some extent – and the UPN38 ALCS retrospective helped confirm that.
• I. Miss. Pokey.
• You’re probably experiencing the same thing, but just to be sure, please confirm that all of the sudden: They Yankees aren’t even that hateable.
Watching NESN’s pre-game, Bernie Williams seems kinda nice. Tom Gordon is just another ex-Sox that seems likeable. Joe Torre is the Best.
But then you see A-Rodent, and you watch him complain about the Purse Snatch call and, well. . . Yankees Suck! Yankees Suck!
