SPECIAL SUNDAY BONUS POSTING!

Scott’s Shots is proud to provide a free (as always) reader service and urges you to check out Warren St. John’s Sunday New York Times profile of the former Boston Sports Guy, Bill Simmons.

The lone initial judgment Shots will pass, is this: Simmons allowed good, at-home, access to the talented St. John and the result is a Lifestyle section (NOT Sports, note) profile of a Guy who’s positioning himself for an exit from ESPN.com. Or, in true Theo fashion, driving up his price on the open market.

If the ESPN higher-ups were as miffed as several insiders told Shots they were, after SG’s comments to us back in September, they will surely see further fingerprints of a smear campaign being executed by Simmons. (There is going to be a time, very soon even, when some deep-pocketed content purveyor takes a run at SG in order to make a BIG splash with its own next generation web/mobile/broadcast/print mega-merger. The implied “Disney constraints” have clearly begun to wear on Simmons, as echoed from the Shots ‘expose’ and the St. John’s story.)

For those and other fascinating ruminations, check back with Shots on Monday morning when we dish out some pre-thanksgiving spuds and stuffing from a 60 hour trip to NYC/Hartford/Providence and odd points in between.
