Gordon Edes reported on the Red Sox pregame show tonight that ESPN’s Peter Gammons, 61, was undergoing surgery for a brain aneurysm after being airlifted from Cape Cod - presumably to a Boston-area hospital.

Details were incomplete, although Edes did say that collegaue Bob Ryan had spoken with members of Gammons’s family. Edes also reported that ESPN had confirmed the sad news but had no further information.

I know I speak for for everyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting, emailing or sharing time with Gammons when I extend positive thoughts and prayers to The Commish.

. . . On a far less serious note, Shots has been battling a wicked stomach flu for the better part of the week and we’re shutting down operations from The Shanty until after the July 4th Holiday. Stay safe and keep your thoughts with Gammons and his family.
