As we indicated last week, we’re on assignment for this week and next, so Shots is in a bit of a holding pattern. Hopefully you were able to get your fill of my, ahem, wit and wisdom through the CSTV.com Hang Time blog from Conference USA’s Media Day.

All we have for you this week is a check in from former NESN talent Paul Devlin. We regretted not getting in touch with Devlin last week but were pleasantly surprised by some communiqués from him at the beginning of this week.

Here’s what Devlin had to say in an email to Shots:

“I loved working at NESN and wanted to stay there until I was planted six feet into the ground. But I’m not bitter, I enjoyed two wonderful years there and had the opportunity to do some great things, like cover the Patriots on a daily basis. I take great pride in knowing that I went all-out, all the time and squeezed every ounce of energy and ability that I had to help make the overall product better.

“The Patriots beat was unlike any other that I’ve had in my career, to see the inner workings of that organization was pretty amazing. I had a lot of solid working relationships with the players who gave me great access that helped in developing and producing some really good stories. Best memory: Corey Dillon taking me into the equipment room to get gear after challenging the media to put on the equipment last season. It was priceless. He’s often misunderstood, but Dillon is a great guy and is loved by all his teammates.

“Right now, I’m hosting the BC Football show (produced by Fenway Sports Group that runs as part of the Saturday television sports package on Channel 38), which has been a good experience.

“I wish nothing but the best for NESN, they are great company with some very talented people. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Sean McGrail, Joel Feld, and Rob Wallace. They are on the verge of doing some great things, and in a few years, from sign-on to sign-off, NESN will be right up there with the Worldwide Leader in sports.”

As for his future, Devlin said he “loves Boston and would like to stay here.” But he still has a home in Atlanta and said he could go back there.

* Thanks for checking in and for bearing with us while we pursue some other work opportunities that are a bit too time consuming to allow for my attention to be fully devoted to Shots at this time. Gotta do what pays the bills, as I’m sure you all can understand.

We’ll be back on-schedule soon.
