• Mike Dee called Geffner a “walking encyclopedia of baseball knoweldge” and he referred to O’Brien as a “rising star.”
• Phil Seibel has been traded to the Angels, it was announced on the call.
• We tried to get the length of the deals for Geffner and O’Brien, but were rebuffed. “We don’t discuss the terms of deals,” said Wolfe. “But thank you for asking.”
• O’Brien has four years remaining on his deal with ESPN. “I have a cluase in my contract that stipulates I can work for a team on radio and ESPN was great about that.”
It’s a different contract than I had in place when the Cubs thing was happening in 2004.
• Susan Bickelhaupt of the Globe had the first question, regarding the three-man booth. Wolfe explained that Joe would do every game and the other two will rotate.
• The Hartford Courant’s Jeff Goldberg was also on the call as was Ian Browne of MLB.com.
• O’Brien too, had trouble getting on the call at first and when he finally did, he chimed in, “I had no idea there would be so mcuh interest, I guess I’ve got to get used to this.”
• Joe Castiglione said, “I’m thrilled to be able to continue in this role.”
• Geffner thanked all the prinicpals for allowing him to join Joe “the voice of summer” and O’Brien, who he called a “pro’s pro.”
• O’Brien said it’s a “thrill and a dream come true.”
• Jesse Noyes of the Herald asked Jason why Jerry Trupiano wasn’t retained and what Castiglione’s feelings were with losing his partner.
Castiglione: “The only constant in broadcasting is the capacity for change. I’ve worked with many different broadcasters over the years.”
“I have great respect for Jerry as well,” Wolfe said. “Mike and I had numerous conversations and ultimately decided this was the direction we should take.”
