FORT MYERS, Fla. - Dice K finished his BP session throwing 40-plus pitchers and the overall impression from the assembled Knights of the Keyboard is: Wow.

Yes, it looks like the new No. 18 will make the roster, so fear not. Rob Blogford of the Eagle Tribune has some of the details from the three-pitcher session which included Josh Beckett and Curt Schilling.

Filed No. 2, where the pitchers tossed BP, was the focal point from about 11 a.m. through Matsuzaka’s session which ended at about 11:45. Cameras lined the third base line and media folks were two and three deep. Behind the cage, the Sox higher-ups included Larry Lucchino, Terry Francona and Jed Hoyer among others.

. . . We got a brief word with Francona as his club went through strecthing drills and asked the Skipper if he was feeling better (he had been battling the Francona Flu the past two days: “I feel great,” said Tito before heading out to join his troops. He definietly had his color back and was joking with Time Wakefiled and jocularly hugging Lucchino briefly behind the cage.

. . . We’ll be back later in the afternoon with a wrap up and the long-awaited Tom Caron feature. But now, we’ve got to go find a TV and get immersed in some college hoops - all this baseball can put a college hoops junkie to sleep. (One more note on that topic, Josh Beckett told us he’s getting jazzed for the NCAA Tournament as his Texas A&M Aggies are in position for a No. 2 seed. “That guy (Billy Gillespie) can coach,” said the former A&M hurler.”)
