FT. MYERS, Fla. - Busy morning in and around the Saturday Sox clubhouse, with the annual picture day taking place on the Shots’ Lanai Deck and inside the back spaces of the clubhouse.

A sign on the clubhouse bulletin board informed players they needed to be in white tops, white pants and (blue) game hats for “all rights holders and licensees (who) will be shooting head shots and posed action. . . The first stop is Red Sox yearbook (photos) at the far end of the locker room.”

Players and coaches were divided into five groups for the pictures which were taken from 7 to 8 a.m. No word on who played the role of Manny.

There’s also a level of excitement at camp as Dice-K will be pitching live batting practice.

. . . Jonathan Papelbon held court in front of his locker for close to half and hour and the guy is simply a gem of a quote and a truly engaging athlete to talk and listen to. He drew the largest crowd of media, by far. Some highlights included Paps’ take on the new MLB incentives that are being taken to speed up the game (he hates them), his feeling of great arm strength and no lingering effects from his injury of a season ago and then, in some positively Jim Cramer moments, Paps’ investment advice on a hot opportunity he’s quite jazzed about, Ispottedyou.com.

Paps joked with teammate Josh Beckett that he’s going to be a “gajillionaire” (or a similar Paps adjective for incredible wealth) after the site - similar, he said, to MySpace, but with a Spanish element - takes off in the next year.

. . . Reps from Wilson and Rawlings were roaming about fulfilling player needs and displaying bags of their goods.

. . . Tim Wakefield’s group won Wake’s charity golf tounrnament on Friday and Beckett said he had an enjoyable time with his foursome that included Dennis Drinkwater of Giant Glass, the Fan Behind the Plate. Beckett said he doesn’t see anyone in the stands, not even the ever-present Drinkwater.

. . . Larry Lucchino visited the lanai deck and sat for an extended interview with Charlie Pierce of Boston Globe magazine.

. . . A lot of the Boston electronic media is beginning to head back North and the number of Boston-based media is beginning to thin out. NESN is readying to move its set over to the main ballpark and the SportsPlus is heading home for the most part.

. . . We’ll go catch some of the BP thrown by Dice-K, specifically and of course all the other machinations of another gorgeous day at The Fort. We’ll chack back in after the early afternoon media access and we’re also planning on posting a Tom Caron featurette later in the day for your Saturday night reading pleasure.
