FT. MYERS, Fla. - We won’t bore you with the details of a Ft. Myers Chamber of Commerce morning, but we can tell you that both Mike Lowell and Alex Cora were among the Sox players “drawing large media crowds” in the morning clubhouse-access period. (Yes, we’re stealing the Reiss’s Pieces line, and no we didn’t ask permission, but we honored him by putting it in quotes.)

Both WEEI 850 AM and ESPN Radio Boston 890 AM are set up, within about 50 feet of each other - 850 is outside the media trailer compound, 890 is on the lanai deck, from where we are also filing. ‘EEI’s “Dennis and Callahan” are going live, while ERB’s Mike Felger and Mike Salk are pre-taping some interviews for this afternoon’s show which they broadcast from a sister station in South Fort Myers. Felger did a one-on-one with Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record, who offered some good Yankees-Sox perspective and Fleger is scheduled to be taping an interview with Larry Lucchino and later is scheduled to get Terry Francona as well.

. . . Old Shots friend and one of our former writers for SPORT magazine, Alan Schwarz, is in camp today, along with some other New York writers, who appear to travel in packs. Schwarz’s website has details of his forthcoming book, “Once Upon a Game,” which will be of interest to Sox fans for its line-up which includes Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra and others. There’s even some streaming audio available of the interviews that Schwarz - who was on the Ted Johnson story most recently for the NY Times - conducted. Making it an even more worthwhile purchase is the fact that, “A portion of the author’s proceeds from Once Upon a Game will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.”

. . . Red Sox COO Mike Dee was spotted entering the parking lot and being his gregarious self. As always, Dr. Charles Steinberg is bustling about coyly working on ways to bring Red Sox Nation to every corner of the Earth.

. . . This one went under the radar a bit, but the Sox recently lost valued team member Tom Catlin, the team’s former Director of Advertising, Television, and Video Production to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Catlin is the Dodger’s VP of creative services. The Sox position has yet to be filled from what we know, but is obviously a pivotal one as the Sox continue to expand their own video empire beyond the traditional TV and into the web.

. . . Ex-NBC7 sports anchor/reporter Wendi Nix has been in town. Nix says she’s enjoying her ESPN gig very much.

. . . Shots has been invited out to Fox Sports New England’s Sports Tonight on-the-road studio for the afternoon and evening tapings at DiamondHead resort. The possibility exists that we’ll have a good old-fashioned case of dueling blogs as the new FSNNE Spring Training Blog has been in full swing this week. It’s a pretty enjoyable alternative take and offers some nice features, including the “Roll of the Dice,” where media folk have been chiming in on the over/under wins and ERA for Dice-K. Shots is running the numbers currently and we hope to be included on the illustrious list.

. .. The Eagle-Tribune’s Rob Blogford Bradford continues his outstanding debut week of “Bradford on Baseball” with the minutiae that can sometimes slip through the cracks. Bradford is a natural for the blogosphere and seems to be enjoying the opportunity to spread his wings a bit.

. . .Caught up briefly with ‘EEI’s Gerry Callahan after his show, where Curt Schilling said he would go to free agency. Callahan is still a bit amazed at how fast things travel in today’s media world. “Ten minutes later, it was already on a blog,” said Callahan, whose Flash Guy, Jon Meterparel spent his post-show time playing with son, Ben near the trailer compound.

. . . Check back later this afternoon or into the early evening for our report from the FSNNE seaside set.

. . . Time to go get some sunscreen on and watch grown men in pajamas field grounders and work on fundamentals. What a country.
