In the most compelling pairing since the Gold Dust twins of 1975, NESN’s “Globe 10.0″ will match Basketball Bob Ryan with Globe Magazine anchor Charlie Pierce for Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. EST show.
Shots took some swipes at “10.0″ last week and it’s only fair to balance our criticism with the legitimate news of two of the city’s best-ever writers (news or sports side) being given a chance to replicate the Korn/Wilby relationship.
If it’s not actually “appointment TV,” it is most definitely DVR-worthy.
Some early questions and thoughts to ponder when Ryan and Pierce share Honda Odyssey desk driving privileges:
• The only more compelling match-up would be Ryan and Bob Neumeier and the Neumie national schedule (especially during football season) could preclude that pair from being feasible.
• If I were doing the rundown for the show, all ten of my topics would be on college basketball simply because of the men involved. And the Extra Point too.
• We’re guessing Pierce goes with a floral print shirt of some sort and there’s a good chance the Final Four staple SWAC hat will be in the house as well, if not sur le tete.
• The crack NESN staff needs to draw up a graphic of the amount of legitimate, big time sporting events the duo has witnessed in their decades of sports coverage. Final Fours alone will be a staggering number. And then add in Pierce’s political wanderings? Wowza. Korn and Wilby are babes in the woods compared with Boston’s potential PTI pardners. (Not that this should be construed as an audition for Pierce, but a regular pairing with rotating “5 Minutes With. . .Globe Writers” would have to be the preferred plan of action for all involved.)
