The program director at WCRB 99.5 FM was taken aback a bit when he got into his Waltham office today and read the news of a potential format change at his station.

“We were most surprised to see the articles in today’s Herald and Globe, especially since no one here at WCRB had been contacted to confirm or deny the rumors!,” ‘CRB PD Mark Edwards said in an email response to Shots. “I can say this: Nassau Broadcasting’s upper management as of this morning has assured us that there are no programming changes on the horizon for WCRB! We are to remain a classical station. As America’s top-rated, major market, classical station, we are happy to let you know that we will continue to broadcast this format for its many fans in the Boston area.”

. . . Shots also was able to get Nassau’s Sr. Executive Vice President Tristram E. Collins on the phone to inquire about the speculation. Collins refused comment and kindly passed our interview request onto Lou Mercatanti, Nassau’s Chairman and President.
