Shots has been informed late Friday night that John Dennis and Gerry Callahan are once again in discussions with Entercom for the purpose of hammering out a deal that would retain the duo for WEEI 850 AM’s morning drive show.
The pair’s respective contracts expired this past week and no resolution to the contract stalemate has been announced by either side. D&C have been effectively “locked out” by station management for about a month.
However, Shots is told by a source with knowledge of the situation that Entercom president David Field “swooped into” Boston on Friday in an effort to work out an arrangement that will keep D&C at ‘EEI for the foreseeable future.
None of the principles involved were available for comment late Friday night or early Saturday morning, but it is believed Field has met with either D&C or their representatives and that a lucrative offer to keep both men at Entercom is in the works. It is further believed that a deal could be in place by the end of the weekend.
The apparent involvement of Field would indicate how important it is for Entercom to keep its Boston morning drive masters and could also be a sign that neither Julie Kahn nor Jason Wolfe has been effective enough in re-negotiating a pact to keep D&C at ‘EEI.
Shots will be follwoing the story all weekend and will provide updates as warranted.

1Guess what? Entercom’s home office has been involved in this straight from when the comedy routine was launched. Program directors do not commit publicly held companies to contracts worth millions.
