“I’m happy to say for the first time in 139 days,” said John Dennis just after 6:10 a.m. “I’m back with my partner Gerry Callahan.”

And with that, the return of WEEI’s morning drive duo commenced in earnest with plenty of references to the beach, beach sand (in Dennis’s ass crack) and “reflecting,” obvious shots at Entercom mouthpiece George Regan.

Callahan’s “scratchy voice” is just that - scratchy and carrying the sound of a man who has been through “multiple” throat surgeries in recent months. There will continue to be questions about Callahan’s pipes until he addresses what exactly it is

. . The first (fill-in No. 835) Dan Patrick reference game at 6:19 when taunting both the producer Chachi and Meter for kissing Patrick’s ass.

“I want to thank all the fill-in hosts who were here every single day,” said Dennis. “And for all those who thought they were auditioning for our jobs, BLEEP you.”

. . .The first regular season Patriots Monday, sponsored by thousands, launched with some friendly digs by bit-master Pete Gustin, who railed against non-name, random fill-ins, said building passes are once again working for the duo and claimed it’s the return of the Beach Bum and The Reflector. He also asked, “Who are these guys?”

. . . Both D&C have seemingly compiled lists of what topics they missed talking about most during their 139-day separation. The Vick story seems to be the consensus, but there’s already been Donaghy and Larry Craig mentions.

. . . Meterparel did indeed launch the show with a sports flash and teased the start of the show by saying, as usual, that “hour number one of the Dennis & Callahan show is next.” How do you suppose the new megabucks contract for D&C is going over with the common folk like Meter and the behind-the-scenes people? These folks were left dangling and had to deal with the freakish fill-ins who filtered through the New Balance building all summer long. D&C should throw all of them some shekels as combat pay.

. . . As Shots reported yesterday afternoon, Entercom plans an official announcement of the contract renewal following the D&C show this morning. We’ll be interested to see how much - if any - David Field is included in that press release and if the credit mostly falls upon Wolfe and Julie Kahn. We’re also hoping George Regan can make a guest appearance in the release to update us on both his long walks on the beach, which he seems to enjoy and the status of his damaged Jaguar. Boy, we’re gonna miss following this tale!
