Glenn Ordway is teasing a 5 p.m. “announcement” on WEEI 850 AM, leading some to assume it has to do with the Dennis & Callahan situation.

However, Shots is being told the “announcement” that the Program Director, Ordway, is dangling has more to do with programming than personalities and will likely involve some expanded Patriots coverage on the station.

Reached on his cell phone, Entercom mouthpiece George Regan said he had “no idea” what the announcement was and would “place a phone call” to look into it. Station personnel contacted by Shots were not aware of any announcement, but one did indicate there was potential for a new addition to the Patriot Monday presentation, be it a player or extended Pats talk.

Messages (text and phone) left for John Dennis were not returned and his voice mail indicated that he “was on the phone” with another party.

UPDATE: The announcement, made after the 5 p.m. sports flash with Meat fill-in Joe Vargas, was a three-parter, none of them D&C related. In fact D&C were not even mentioned as if there was some sort of ban on mentioning the duo.

Ordway confirmed that Tom Curran will be part of Friday Big Shows during the season; that Boomer Esiason will shift from the Monday morning dirve appearances he had been doing with D&C to afternoon hits on Monday with the Big Show; and the station will be giving away Pats’ season tickets for the current season next Friday afternoon. Details will follow during the week, according to Ordway.

The Esiason move is necessitated by Boomer’s move to a morning drive slot in NYC, which he started this past Tuesday. It has nothing to do with the D&C situation, simply a scheduling conflict that Entercom and Esiason were able to work through with mutual benefit.

. . . There is also scuttlebutt that 98.5 FM could be in the D&C sweepstakes, although without any sports property (the way WBCN has the Pats), the transition would be considerably more arduous and entirely less appealing than the Nassau deal that D&C saw swiped from under their feet by Entercom.

. . . Ordway’s playing his audience like a fiddle and for that he deserves credit. The man does know radio - and his minions - better than anyone in town.

. . . Worst part of all this? I’ve got waste a gorgeous afternoon at the beach - a cheatin’ the world late summer day - and tune into the Beef Brothers at 5 p.m.

There is no justice in blogging.
