<description>I'm with the other guys. I didn't grow up here but appreciate listening to their broadcasts. One thing they've got going over most others is that their program is over-produced. Both have great voices and are easy to listen to. That counts a lot.

Yes, they make mistakes but I've never heard them make tragic mistakes. If the 3rd and 4 call is more important then follow the game on the internet. But appreciate these guys while you've got them - they are good.

<description>I'm with you Derek....I've been listening to these guys for so long, It just wouldn't be the same with "new" announcers....just like watching the Bruins hasn't been the same for me since Fred Cusick retired...To me, it's all about THE VOICE, I don't care how many mistakes these guys make.......

<description>I know the idea has merit, but there's something to be said for familiarity and comfort. These are guys I grew up with, and yeah, that's part of the problem, I know. But to tell the truth, Gil still sounds like the voice from God when he's really into it. So I would stick with them, if only because the alternative is possibly something worse, given the state of radio these days.

<description>I agree 100% with Tony - this is LONG overdue. From the basics of down &#038; distance to who caught a pass...My wife was listening to a game with me recently and she remarked "do these guys even pay attention to the game?"...they screwed up time left...quarter...down &#038; distance...you name it.

I have heard games in the car and noticed the favorite phrase of Gil is "check that..." as in "tackle by Colvin....check that - tackle by Seymour"..."pass complete to Brown...check that - pass complete to Faulk"...maybe they should provide better spotters in the booth?

And Gino has had a great career and a long stay in the booth, but it time to move on...

I have heard other teams announcers and I think so many of them will be direct, accurate and will even criticize the team they are broadcasting for - a bad play...curious call etc...won't happen with Pats..and it definitely will not happen on a Sox game...don't get me started on Don &#038; Jerry!

G &#038; G - thanks for the memories...time to enjoy your retirement...

<description>I would suggest listening to other broadcasts. The TV announcers are significantly worse, and the radio guys in other cities are beyond awful. Seriously. Listen sometime and you'll see what I mean. Geno and Gil might not be perfect but they are head and shoulders above the guys doing the games everywhere else.

<description>I'm not down so much on Gil, but I definitely concur with your take on Geno. He has been just hideous for a very, very long time. He sounds like a befuddled old man. I can't tell you how many times I have heard Gil have to correct Geno about the most obvious of things. For example,

Geno: "Well, Gil, all of a sudden the players are running off the field. I don't understand what'd going on here"

Gil (exasperated): "It's halftime, Duke"

Geno: "Oh, yeah, that's right"

Maybe the simple answer is that he has sucked the life out of Gil.

<description>While I cannot say some of the criticism is without merit, I still very much enjoy listening to them broadcast the game. No matter how many numbers they misidentify, the dropoff from them to the network announcers is tremendous. There is nothing worse than some generic network play-by-play guy neglecting to report an injury or penalty call because he is too busy doing a promo for CBS's new crappy crime drama.

For years I listened to them and watched the game on TV. It seems since the advent of the HD broadcast and/or the Janet Jackson delay, the TV signal now badly trails the radio call making listening to G &#038; G nearly impossible.

Does anybody have a suggestion on how this can be remedied?

<description>Finally, someone publicly articulates something I have felt for years.

It's been time for Gil to go for about 10 years. I first realized this when, in the late 90's, he just couldn't tell the difference between Troy Brown and Terry Glenn; and, it has become progressively worse since that time. The receivers might have changed over the years, but, still, Gil rarely can tell you correctly the first time who caught the ball. For that matter, he has difficulty telling you which Patriot made the tackle. Finally, in terms of "down and distance", well, he's pretty good at "down", but "distance" presents a problem. For example, if it's 3rd and 4 for the Pats, invariably, he says 3rd and 3.

Admittedly, the casual fan probably doesn't care about, or even notice "Santos' follies"; however, for a fanatic like me, he has made the radio broadcast all but unlistenable.

Regards,
Tony
