NESN announced today that two-year Red Sox field reporter Tina Cervasio will be leaving the network at the end of March - at the conclusion of her current contract - to be “closer to her family and travel less.”
According to her bio at her own site, Cervasio is married to her “golf partner”, Kevin McKearney, and she splits time between her home state New Jersey, and Boston when covering the Red Sox.
“These last two years working with NESN and covering the Red Sox have been both a privilege and an honor,” said Cervasio. “At this time in my career, I have chosen to pursue other opportunities that would afford me the chance to be closer to my family. I want to thank everyone that I have worked with, both at NESN and the Red Sox. It was an extraordinary experience that I will never forget and will look back upon with great pride. I would also like to thank my colleagues in the Boston media who made the rigors of covering sports in New England a joy.”
“We are appreciative of everything (Tina) has done for NESN and wish her the very best,” said Joel Feld, NESN vice president of programming and executive producer.
Cervasio joined NESN in March 2006 and has served as the network’s Red Sox game-day reporter for the past two seasons.
Shots has confirmed that Cervasio auditioned for the new CN8 11:30 p.m. offering of “Out of Bounds” that will re-launch in mid-February. That position, however, has been filled by a male host who it is believed will be announced in the coming days. (Disclosure: Shots is a frequent guest on the current incarnation of “Out of Bounds” at both 11 p.m. and 7 p.m. and is morally bound to some privacy agreements regarding the new show.)
It is not known who will fill the Cervasio role or whether it will be filled from within the ranks of NESN. Feld is an unabashed fan of Kathryn Tappen so that is one possibility. Cervasio had grown nicely into her role and shone brightest during the Sox World Series run last year.
