With all these newspaper and TV sports media hacks desperately trying to find soft landing spots in the ether called the Information Superhighway, how long will it be before THOSE firms are awash with hired hacks that outnumber the amount of work that's needed to be done? They can't ALL go to Yahoo! et al. Take all the lemmings trying to jump from the Boston cliff to some other, and multiply it by the other cities with newspaper problems (read: all of them) and you have a case of supply far outstripping demand.

These sports media hacks need to get a grip and realize that they can't ALL attend games for free and get free food and fly on planes on someone else's dime. There comes a point where these hacks have to graduate from high-school and try doing some REAL work.

NESN is emulating Fox with the football and hocket broadcasts.

What is next, the ball will glow?

I emailed NESN though their website last week about the Sox score missing for most of the game. On occasion, my wife walks in the room and wants to talk, so I don't always know the count or the number of outs. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a ball flying out to center field, and not having any idea if it's the final out of the inning.

Edes has already left once only to not leave and come back. He is notorious for pulling crap. They want him to go and not pay him anything. They have a back up plan in Hohler waiting in the wings

On one occasion during a recent Soxcast, I heard a sounder after every pitch. It was timed to the radar-gun posting onscreen. One of the Sox' youngsters was pitching at the time -- Buchholz, I think -- and maybe they decided to draw attention to the 90-plus readings on the gun.

It went on for part of an inning -- two or three at-bats -- and about the time when I was getting good and annoyed, it stopped. I haven't noticed it since. I don't know if it was an experiment or a mistake, or if they're breaking it in gradually. I hope this isn't a trend; I fear the onset of various zips, zaps, bleeps, and boings, designed to "perk up" the broadcast. If so, the Sox on NESN is going to sound more like Super Mario Brothers than major-league baseball.

Why on earth would Edes deserve a buyout if he's planning to jump ship? The Globe was smart not to waste money if they don't have to.. If anything, news of his possible move to Yahoo on this site screwed Edes' plans up so the Globies found out first.

Dave: The Globe's buyout goal was 60 positions company wide. They got 23 from the newsroom. I don't know if it's been reported how many signed up in total.
