Hi David -

About your point 3 -

Agree that it is drivel put forth by most commenters. However, anyone cannot post on Deadspin; one submits a number of comments and if the subjective judgement of Will Leitch deems your comments witty enough, you are allowed in. Much of the commentary has rascist/sexist/bad taste remarks. So, Leitch does have control. It's akin to shock jocks surrounding themselves with racist/sexist sidekicks who say things - but shock jocks can say "I didn't say that" even though they've provided the platform.
I do like Deadspin and many of the other blogs - I skip the comments as I suppose you do to.
Thanks

If you take all the jettisoned sports media hacks in Boston who are scrambling to get off their respective Titanics and onto their choice of Good Ship Lollipop (Yahoo, ESPN, et al), and then you multiply the goings-on in Boston across the U.S., how can these portals absorb all these cast-offs? And why would they want to? Some of these people ought to realize that there's no 'birthright' to being a sports media person. There's enough of that 'entitlement' mentality as it is within the profession (see: the Buzz fiasco).

Re: the Telegraph and other papers cutting reporters... God knows, I don't have any answers for the revenue crunch at our nation's dailies, but what they are doing can only be described as "eating their seed corn." They are giving readers less and less reason to buy the paper.

I've been a lifelong newspaper reader -- even when I was a kid. But the last few months, I've started thinking twice before buying. I even skip some days. If the newspapers are losing people like me, they are not long for this world.

It was sad that a civilized discussion on sports blogs could not be acheived on the HBO show. I embrace the new technology (and blog myself). It is a great forum. It is our future.

What bothers me is how some of these blogs (Deadspin included) appear to convey that they are the communicators of "sports news". For many of them (specificaly the more sucessful ones) that is so far from the truth. I do not consider drunk pictures of Ben Rothilesburger "sports news". It's sports "celebrity" news. That' s great. Highly entertaining. There is an audience for this. Their voice should not be stifled . It's not "sports news". And should not be identified as such.

What Buzz was trying to convey (under his vulgarity) was that the future of sports media will be "dumbed down" if these types of sites gain any journalistic validity. The young readers of today take sites like Deadspin as the authority. WE can see and appreciate what Deadspin is. Others may not have that insight. And that is the threat to sports journalism Buzz and other MSM members fear. I think they have a point.
