Stumbled on this after reading a gem from Reilly.

I don't think Bill gets the fact that the quality of an article is not measured in the quantity of the words.

I'll take Reilly's well-written, on-topic articles, to Simmons's rambling mini-novels any day.

Tough to pick a side, this is like rooting for cancer over a heart attack.

Simmons is just a jinx book away from completely transforming into Dan Shaughnessy and he still doesn't get that professionals can write his 12,000 word columns in 900. In addition, that email reads like something Steve Silva would write. And he bailed on Mike and the Mad Dog out of the fear of being exposed as a sports lightweight.

Meanwhile, Dave Scott trolls for attention like a 3rd rate hack on the Herald staff.

I think I'll flip a coin.

What do you know? Simmons' sycophants have arrived in the comments section, the same ones who show up everytime someone writes anything less-than-glowing about His Holiness.

Anyway, I'm glad to see this get posted. Now we know why Simmons has been whining: The guy with the second-most-cush job on earth is jealous because he now works with the guy with the most cush gig. Poor widdle baby Bill.

If I could rate you on Boston Sports Media Watch, I'd disapprove. The circle is complete; now you are the self important blowhard who dips his little toes into every conceivable controversy and storyline, coming up with long winded opinions that can't be questioned.

Overall I'd have to agree with Simmons... you are coming of as completely biased towards him. Your comments about him biting the ESPN hand that feeds him are way off base for two reasons...

1. You don't know what has transpired in his relationship with ESPN, so you really have no place to judge his actions in that regard.

2. Page 2 will absolutely tank if Simmons leaves - he's been carrying that site for the past few years now. If it's true that ESPN made promises to him and didn't keep them, you could also say they're biting the hand that feeds them. Not that they couldn't get along just fine without Simmons, but he's a siginficant draw for their online presence.

Jessica Van Stack is wondering, no doubt, what a 'ramification' is. Maybe she'll Google it.

Overall, the media teapot really is whistling these days with backstabbing, infighting, bickering, and outright rage. Methinks the whole 'New Media versus Old Media' issue sits at the root of it, with everything having to do with 'New'---blogs, message boards, comments sections, and the Internet in general--being excoriated by every gray-haired 'Oldie' in the sports-media universe. For observers like me, it is very much 'Getcha Popcorn' worthy.
