I can stand the big show in small chunks (they should take less calls) but I spent far more time listening to Felger. However, lately Felger had been sloppy and I’ve was losing interest. It was as if he didn’t think at all before he went on the air and then just said random stuff that made little sense. I didn’t get his abrasiveness with his cohosts, whom made the show much better. With that said, I really like Felger on EEI so far. So I’m thinking he was probably burned out from the radio-to-tv grind everyday, knew his ticket was up and was just mailing it in.

The important thing is to have an alternative for when EEI goes into one of their 20 minute commercial breaks or some idiot calls and gets everyone screaming till the end of the show.

The WEEI signal is at its worst between late fall and early spring, when the sun rises later and sets earlier. That’s when their signal takes a nosedive, and sadly it is at its worst during the money-minting drive-time periods. I believe theirs is a very directional signal, because during these money-grabbing periods the signal is unlistenable here in southern NH (near Nashua). However, up on the ocean in Kennebunkport, ME, the WEEI signal comes booming in…skipping right over the open water. I would bet that WEEI sounds better 120 miles to north in Portland than it does 50 miles away in Nashua.

I agree that Dale & Holley is WEEI’s most enjoyable show — it’s the best pure sports show on the station. I like the Big Show too, but more for its entertainment value than for any actual sports commentary. I can’t stand D&C and would gladly tune into any decent morning drive time alternative. Seriously, I don’t think they even spend 50% of the show talking sports. I couldn’t care less about their politics, much less hearing them spew their venomous opinions. I was rooting for WEEI to cut them loose during their contract dispute.

Is anyone else getting terrible reception on EEI on AM? I can barely get 1440 when driving on the MA Pike near Worcester, and even in Boston today I could not get 850. I heard a caller mention this last week, but of course Pete mocked the person.

I agree with seeking an alternative to WEEI.
I’ve reached 660 WFAN for very enlightening Yankees and anti Boston talk, though those guys have class to admit that the Sox, Patriots and fans deserve the accolades they’re receiving.
Another alternative; audio books!!
I drive 1,000 miles a week and good audio books provide a huge relief from the sometimes endless, most often mindless drivle we hear on sports talk.
The class of the sports talk is when Gammons is on, and how we miss Wil McDonough.
I’ll hand it to WEEI, though, and Jason Wolf, for successfully riding the Boston sports wave since the “Parcellian Epoch”, which launched WEEI and all their “celebs.”

Sometimes, though, I can’t wait to switch the dial!

While I agree that there are some that are looking for an alternative to ‘EEI, i think that most people are looking more for an alternative to the big show or to D&C. I really enjoyed Felger’s show, when I got reception that is. To me Dale & Holley is the most enjoyable show on ‘EEi, couple that with the fact that Halloran is one of the most irritating personalities on the air, and I would say that this new show has no chance of succeeding even to half of the level of Felger’s show.
